Senate Bill 2021, an Act Relative to Drinking Water and Wastewater Infrastructure, was signed into law as Chapter 259 today by Governor Deval Patrick. Among the many positive outcomes of Chapter 259, this law creates a water infrastructure advisory committee, and identifies MCWRS as a member. MCWRS looks forward to working with the state legislature and other regulatory agencies to build on this foundation and further improve the Commonwealth’s water infrastructure.
During a late night, end of term session, the Massachusetts House and Senate passed an Act Relative to Drinking Water and Wastewater Infrastructure. Senate Bill 2342 creates a water infrastructure advisory committee and identifies MCWRS as a member. A role on the advisory committee will allow MCWRS to advocate for the interests of its municipal members in closing the multi-billion dollar gap in needed drinking water, wastewater and stormwater infrastructure investment and funding. This is a first step in providing much needed financial assistance to communities grappling with shrinking municipal budgets and ballooning demands. The bill now awaits Governor Patrick’s signature.
